The Church was founded in 1820 by eighteen individuals whose beliefs were Trinitarian rather than Unitarian, reflecting their Puritan and Pilgrim heritage. The existing church in Waltham had moved into Unitarian thinking leaving more traditional Christians without a church home. The new church, called “The Trinitarian Church of Waltham,” was located on the corner of Heard and Main Street. Part of the intention of the founders, along with preserving Biblical faith, was to serve the workers at the Boston Manufacturing Company, makers of cotton cloth. In 1870, the present church building was constructed. The congregation incorporated under Massachusetts laws in 1908 under the new name of “The First Congregational Church of Waltham.” In 1957, First Church joined the United Church of Christ denomination, and was a member of the Massachusetts Conference of the UCC until 2006 when the church voted to establish itself as an independent, trans-denominational congregation. To reflect our Trinitarian faith and recalling our original designation, the church adopted the name of “Trinity Church.” Our faith is based upon Scriptural revelation and is best expressed in the historical creeds of the Church, specifically the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Our government is congregational. Our Mission: Our Weekly Broadcast Special
